Pavlov

The history and fate of this village, which is located on the eastern slope of Děvín (246 m above the sea level), used to be closely related to the Děvičky Castle. The castle was probably built to serve as a fortress protecting the border in 1020s when Moravia was united with the Czech Premyslide kingdom. The settlement located in its outer bailey (which was called Pulin or Pulm at that time) possibly dates back to the aforementioned period. Certain records from 1046 also speak about a church in Pulin. As regards year 1334, the Děvičky Castle and Pavlov prove to be mentioned in the Deed of Donation issued by John of Luxembourg, a Czech king, issued for the Liechtenstein dynasty residing in Mikulov.
